IAIN HOWICK

Iain started playing the trumpet when he was 6 with a Salvation Army Band, then moved to trombone a year later when given the opportunity at school.

He played in the school bands and orchestras during primary school and high school while studying with Gavin Staines.

In 1992, Iain was accepted into the Conservatorium High School where he received lessons off Arthur Hubbard and Greg van der Struik. Since then, Iain has had lessons with Ron Prussing and Colin Philpott.

Iain first association with Swing City was managing their very successful "Dance Party" nights at North Sydney Leagues Club.

When the Bass Trombone position became available, Iain did 2 auditions with the band and got the Bass Trombone chair early last year.

Iain has performed throughout Australia, China, the Philippines and New Zealand.

He has also performed with the following artists: Don Burrows, James Morrison, Don Rader, Emma Pask, Jeff Duff, Frank Bennett, Lily Dior, Phil Burton, the TCB Band and Paulini.

Iain is a great asset to Swing City. His powerful sound on the bass trombone fills the entire brass section with plenty of "crackle". There are so few people who specialize in this chair and I am very lucky to have one of the best!
