"One
of the most captivating and beautiful voices in Australian
Jazz".
With
a degree in music and communications, Catherine Hunter`s
uncompromising professional attitude is complimented by
a warm personality.
In
Canberra, Catherine was the founder and manager of the Jumping
Jazzcats, the A.C.T.`s most successful Jazz Group. Accolades
included winning the Southerns Cross Club`s "John Carrick
Memorial Jazz Award" and being voted "Most Popular
Band" at the Thredbo Jazz Festival for two consecutive
seasons. This resulted in a four month engagement for Catherine
and her piano trio at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. Catherine
and her bands have supported such international acts as
B.B.King and Blood, Sweat & Tears, whilst the Jumping
Jazzcats were the first band from the nation`s capital to
perform at Sydney`s prestigious Manly International Jazz
Festival.
Having
outgrown Canberra, Catherine moved north and her talents
were soon recognized by the Sydney jazz alumni. Initial
highlights included appearing with Paul Grabowsky and regular
performances at the Forecourt Restaurant of the Sydney Opera
House & Australia`s longest established live jazz club,
Soup Plus. National jazz icon Don Burrows was quick to recognise
her unique voice and Catherine accepted an invitation to
perform with him as a guest soloist.
As
a founding member of the four, Catherine performed at the
American Express Oz Jazz Festival, the Cairns International
Jazz Festival, Darling Harbour`s International Music Festival
and the celebration concert for the successful Sydney 2000
Olympic bid. During this time Trans4mation was the resident
group for a twelve month period at Australia`s premier live
music venue, The Basement.
As
a solo artist in her own right, Catherine had performed
at corporate functions on Hamilton Island with Australia`s
jazz legend James Morrison; worked with internationally
acclaimed saxophonist Dale Barlow and sings regularly with
dual Australian Entertainment Association "MO"
Award winner Bobby Gebert and his trio.
